So, I've kind of been in a funk. I was sick for the last week of my trip and the first week of coming home. I was more or less in bed for two weeks. As you can imagine, laying in bed and feeling like shit got old real fast. By the end of it, I was restless and the boredom was overwhelming. But, I was in an emotional as well as a physical funk. I was easily irritated all the time. My birthday came and went during this period, and I just wasn't feeling super great about it. A whole lot of blah.
Yesterday was my first day to really get out and be more a part of the world. It was somewhat circumstantial and somewhat chosen. Yesterday ended up being one helluva day. After work, I went berry picking at an organic farm. Then, helped a family in need - a pregnant mom, a grandmother, and two kids were stranded at an off ramp intersection. I felt compelled to help, as that could easily be me in that situation (I am often in a car with a grandmother and my two kids). The grandmother and I tried pushing the Jeep out of the road, but it was too heavy. Then three other people saw us and immediately came to the rescue. It was easy to push with a group of five working together. Then I took the grandmother around to the get gas (no gas cans sold at 2 gas stations or one car repair place). The car still wouldn't start, so they rolled down the hill and we tried to jump it... to no avail. At that point, my children were unable to keep in the crazy any longer; so it was time for us to leave. By then, the family had help arrive. I hope that the car eventually started. From there, we went to my kettlebell strength training class. It was my first class after a 6 week leave, and it kicked my ass. The dry heat was unbearable, and my supply of water was drank by the kids. It was torturous, but it also felt good to use my body. We played at the playground after that. Then got dinner at our local health food store. Visited with a few acquaintances while shopping. We ate dinner, showered, and collapsed after a long hard day. My sweetheart came home with a new family car shortly after that (YAY). Lots of excitement and opportunities to help others, when you choose to be a part of the world.
